Each entry in the list on the left hand side represents a topic. Clicking on this displays a threaded discussion list - showing who posted a message who they were specifically replying to. Click on a persons name to view their post.
Posting Messages and Replies
To post a new message, click "New" in the menu - replies can be posted by clicking the "reply" icon which appears at the foot of a message. Each new message must have a subject and optional "emoticon" (also known as smilies). Replies can have an optional "comment" which can be used to help structure the flow of discussion.
You can also get e-mail notification for each message (registered users only) - each time your message receives a reply you will get an announcement by e-mail. When you are ready to post your message, click "submit" - or you can request a "preview" instead.
What the Orange Circles Mean (registered users only)
In the thread list, a message which has an orange circle next to it indicates that this is a new message which you probably have not read yet. In the topic list, a circle indicates a new topic. A smaller circle indicates that this topic has recently received a new reply.
Managment of new messages in this way isn't fully automatic - you need to click the "MAAR" icon to mark all the messages as read once you have finished. Clicking "MAAR" also performs a refresh on the topic list.
Using Smilies
You can post smilies in your message by simply typing the code for the smilie you require into the body text - each smilie code will automatically be converted into the correct graphic. Unlike other forums, common smilie key strokes will not be converted directly from text to the appropriate GIF automatically since some users do not approve of automatic conversion. You need to enclose them in square brackets first which is simplicity in itself.
e.g. [:)] =
You may want to use the "preview" function to make sure you have not made a mistake. Study the key to look at more smilie codes.
Using HTML Tags (registered users only)
This is for advanced users only - you must have a competent knowledge of HTML. We recommend you also make good use of the "Preview" function. To use HTML tags, simply enter in your HTML along with your message and make sure you have the "Allow HTML Tags" checkbox enabled.
