Our first Donington Park track days took place last weekend. Saturday was an open pit lane day for all BookaTrack members and Sunday was the 2012 Caterham pre-season track day for their race competitors. It was great to be back at Donington but sadly we didn't enjoy the sunny weather the Top Gear team enjoyed when filming a few weeks ago!
After getting used to the Iberian sunshine putting our thermals on for the weekend was a nasty shock on Saturday morning. The day had been fully booked for over a week and it was excellent to see the paddock full of track and race cars. Overall a great day was had by all - the morning rain cleared to a cold but dry afternoon. A few minor stoppages were quickly cleared. We also had a number of our Caterham arrive and drive cars out on hire, which are perfectly suited to Donington Park. These included a group that had arranged taster sessions in a R300.
On Sunday we were using the full GP circuit as this is the configuration the Caterham's will be using for their race meeting in May. Hopefully in May the weather will be a little better! From our arrival at 7am a wet circuit greeted us which made driving conditions interesting throughout the day. This meant for a higher than usual number of stoppages throughout the course of the day with many drivers finding the various gravel traps around the track. However, the fantastic staff at Donington Park very quickly cleared stoppages minimising the impact on the track time. By the end of the day the track was drying and drivers had enjoyed the chance to drive with their fellow competitors and catch up with the Caterham motorsport team.
Our next days at Donington Park are:
Friday 30th March (sessioned)
Friday 27th April (open pit lane)
Wednesday 16th May (open pit lane)
