BaT have visited Anglesey over the Easter weekend more often than not since our inception back in October 2000. The tradition of hosting a private club event on the Good Friday was started when we organised an exclusive event for Martin 'MAV' Richards and his chums from the Lotus Seven Club on the original Anglesey circuit (may it RIP). Although we no longer get the delights of the Radar complex and the exhilarating run from School into Abbots, we are now treated to the great sequence of corners that is made up of School > Rocket > Peel instead.
Good Friday this year saw the return of the Exiges.com crowd to Anglesey for what has now become an annual event, with nearly 60 Lotuses (Loti?) of varying states of tune and in every colour in the rainbow. Special thanks must go to Rob "Pesky" Hesketh for all his hard work drumming up the troops and I'm pleased to say that his efforts rewarded with a dry day at one of our favourite venues.
This day in particular was made even more special as it was a memorial event to celebrate the life and passion of Con McLaughlin - an Exiges.com and BaT regular whose untimely death following a snowboarding accident earlier this year shocked the community to the point that everyone felt something had to be done in his name. The fantastic atmosphere on Friday was a real testament to Cons popularity and how passionate he was about his Exige and his hobby of track days. Cons family passed on their thanks to all concerned for making it such a special event and for the generosity of the drivers who raised several hundred pounds towards the family's charity of choice.
Saturday saw a far more varied range of machinery with only a handful of the Exiges.com drivers hanging around to make a double-header of the trip. Despite overnight storms, we were blessed with a bone-dry track again from 9am and the clouds even cleared by late afternoon to give us the spectacular views of a snow-capped Snowdonia.
Finally, I couldn't write about the weekend we've just had without a comment about the meal on Friday evening. Sarah and Harry very kindly prepared an excellent spicy mexican feast for the staff and a few of the regulars at a self-catering cottage near to the circuit. Despite promises of the staff being on best behaviour, a cheeky glass of Pinot Grigio turned into an evening of Margaritas and Tequila & Cadbury Mini-Egg slammers (!). I'd love to say it was the clients being a bad influence on the staff - but anyone who's spent an evening with the BaT team will know that's a lie!
On a serious note - there are hundreds of reasonably priced self-catering places on the island, perfect for turning a track day trip into a mini-break for family and/or friends. We've probably stayed at over 20 different properties over the years - so contact us for some excellent recommendations for couples or groups from 4-20 people.
"Con but not forgotten" - the Con McLaughlin memorial track day Anglesey firday 6th April 2012, the new garages and race control buildings nearing completion and Duncan Watt in a BaT Caterham R300 trying not to get distracted by the views up at Peel corner.

Following the success of these events, we've added another weekend trackday at Anglesey on Sunday 1st July 2012.
