Coastal Circuit - really found it very enjoyable, offering such a good array of corners and speeds, without being too tricky (imo).

My local circuit and I can only say it's a stunner! Did my first tack day here in Feb 2010 on the coastal circuit and loved every second of it. The briefing was well conducted, the sighting laps were great for me and then the track itself dried out and it's sooooooooo grippy which inspires a great amount of confidence! The track is great too, loads of elevation changes, challenging corners and the complex of Peel into the Corkscrew and the finla corner....just stunning! I'm hooked and will be back again...and again....and again..you get the idea!

I loved this track (coastal). There are no real straights if you want to stretch your legs but it has a great variety of corners. Each corner leads you to another completly different one. I didnt want to go home. Plenty of run off and generally not massive speeds means it feels really safe. Definatly going again and was massive fun in the wet.

My home circuit so I may be biased. The recently upgraded track is super smooth and provides a good mix of challenges in its four layouts. When the weather is good it's heaven on earth, in or out of the car. The veiwing from the top most point of the circuit on a clear day is second to none. Well worth the trip, it's less than 2 hours from the M6 - dual carriageway all the way bar the last 10 mins.

New Coastal Circuit Driven on Friday, and its ace! Excellent combination of corners from really quick righthander onto back 'straight' to really technical (from Rocket through to the corkscrew) add in the quite stunning backdrop and its going to rival some of the more well known locations really quick. Currently the circuit lacks curbing, and the grass hasn't grown much so if anybody puts a wheel off you get instant sandstorm.. but that'll soon be fixed and it would then have got a 6 from me...

I'd read about the track being good, bad and mickey mouse, considering it was my first time there, in a car I hadn't driven previously, I was impressed with the circuit, organisation and the tuition. Good location, not too busy (maybe due to winter forecast), lots of track time and a drying surface meant that as my confidence increased my laps improved, I thoroughly enjoyed it, the car (my newly acquired 944 S2) worked well amongst the mix of Caterfields and Elises, and everyone I saw and spoke to all seemed to be enjoying the day. The sweeping School was difficult to master at first but once I got the line, it was easy to replicate, Abbotts is where a few drivers went off, kicking up some mud, and I could never quite get the right line through that right hander, always seemed to be waiting for the power to come to me on the uphill section to Radar whcih was so good to get right, clip the concrete on the left then hard right, back end slides and you're pointing at the Back straight. Hairpin was another one which took some time to get right, but once it did, I found I could just get oversteer into the straight before Douglas. The final left right and left is a very quick, full throttle complex which if you get the line right means no braking at all. Although I tend to agree with other comments that its probably better suited to the Seven's, Elises, etc. but Tiff Needell showed it can be done in a Merc and a Jag on this week's Fifth Gear so I was happy my S2 performed well enough. Many thanks to Book-a-Track for a thoroughly enjoyable day.

Fantastic track, Can be memorised in around three laps but you can spend a full day session going round this circut trying difernet lines every lap and still not get it right. School requires you to leave your brain on the straight, somewhere out of the way, especially in a 4wd car.

I know this is a much loved BAT location, but I'm going to be brutally honest as ever and say I couldn't see what the fuss was about. The elevation change is novel but it didn't seem to flow for me, I prefer Llandow by far... It is a challenging little circuit however and good for the learning process. Maybe I should go again wioth sticky tyres not brand-new RE720's...

If Spa is a GT car then Anglesey is the hot hatch of race circuits - basic facilities, no luxuries, but a totally gripping and raw experience. Put another way, this track is all killer, no filler. The School/Abbots/Radar section is the best set of corners on a UK circuit. School is just downright scary but seems to reward commitment. Abbot gives you the first opportunity in the lap to do a decent drift, and Radar is a real test for the balance of any car - a left-right flick over a blind rise complete with camber change. The hairpin would be understeer-central in a FWD car but is a great place to learn to goon. The Douglas/Mountview corners are pretty intimidating but if you're confident in your car you can induce a nice drift through the right-hander. Utterly, utterly brilliant circuit - even if you live in Kent or the wilds of Scotland its worth a visit. Ignore what appears to be a simple layout if you look at the circuit map - it has bags of variety packed into it, and whatever car you drive it seems to be fun...

My opinion is possibly somewhat influenced by the fact I was driving a Superlight instead of the MR2. However, it was a wonderful experience. School requires real commitment and seems to have at least three possible lines through it, Abbots is off camber but seems to have a lot of grip available, Radar is a fantastic blind left/right flick, and the hairpin is of course goontastic. Good basic facilities at the track - clean toilets and a clubhouse, although no cover in the paddock for working on a car. Other bonus for those who live south and east of the track is that you get to drive the A5 for a couple of hours - one of the best road-driving experiences out there...

Considering that it's such a short track, it offers remarkable variety. Half of the circuit is relatively open and fast, while the other half is more twisty and technical. There isn't much of a straight on the whole circuit, so it's more suited to the more nimble cars than the lardy point and squirt muscle car. Beware getting it wrong at the end of the pit straight. As you're skidding onto the grass, you can see a cliff ahead, and a drop to the sea! Not to worry though, as you won't fall over it. Still, it focuses the mind wonderfully It's a long way to go for most people (unless you live in North Wales), but it's well worth it, and days there tend to be very reasonably priced, which offsets the cost of getting there.

My first visit to Anglesey was a double header weekend and I can't think of a more fun way to do this circuit. The fun afternoon-long drive up there through wales was boring and forgettable compared to the two days spent getting know and love this Circuit. The gradients and back to back corners of some sections make this short circuit amazingly good fun. Tuition is recomended to help get the most of it.

The UK's least known but arguably best circuit. You dont have time to stop thinking round anglesey. Short, one long series of complexes, ideally suits caterfields, elises and lighter, nimbler or less powerful cars. a must visit.

From leaving the pits and crossing the Start/Finish line... The cheesy grin sets in and will NOT be shaken! HUGE HUGE speed attainable through the long right sweeping School bend uphill to abbotts where you meet radar and a marshalls post. Lots of hoohaa about whether or not radar should be taken as a single apex or a double apex ("double apex... two corners for the price of one"...Ray Barnet 2nd December 2001 Accelerate slightly downhill again to the "hairpin".. does exactly what it says on the tin. A short complex of left right left and you're on the downhill start/finish straight again heading to that yummy School bend again and another fun lap. so much fun.. it ought to be banned!!

It's small but perfectly formed (for a 7 / Elise / light and chuckable car). School is a superb quick corner and the back section is complicated and twisty. Loads of run off too (except the hairpin) which makes it an ideal first track!

I love it! I've not driven too many circuits but i think this is one of the easiest to drive whilst still technical in places. School is fun but slightly scar when you realise just how much speed you can carry through if you've got the guts! Radar again can be great fun if you get it right (Bloody awful if you get it wrong, I can testify!) exiting radar in a full sideways slide is very possible if you're too eager and flick the wheel hard, but it fun! The hairpin is a difficult one, I never seem to get the right line and end up taking it in two, maybe thats just my bad driving! Then the blast through the twisties before the start/finish can again be very rewarding if you get the line right, the car just seem to want to go well! Can be fun here if its a bit damp or greasy, caution is required! All in all i love it, living 5 minutes away also helps in my opinion! I'm sure i will eventually find somewhere more challenging, faster or more technical but for the smaller car Anglesey is great!

This is a great little circuit. No time is wasted with big long straights, just lots of good corners. Theres a lot to learn and at the end of the day i still haven't got a clue what the best line for two of the corners are. But when you get some of the corners right it feels brilliant. Radar being my favourite. And for a bit of fun there's the hairpin for sliding the car around (it was wet). Well worth the journey to deepest darkest wales. I'll be going back as soon as pos.

Great track, I was worried that it would be too twisty for the heavy Sierra but it was just a quick through the corners as the Elises / Westfields / Caterhams. The corners lead into each other so if you screw one up it takes a couple of corners to get back into it. Abbotts is my favorite corner, sliding the Sierra round it nearlly every time! The track is set in stunning scenery. For a full review and pictures from January 2001 go here

Whether the car was built for the track or vice versa is likely to remain a topic of propping the bar for years to come. Anglesey and the Elise very readily become intimate friends. The course although limited in length is varied enough to remain interesting, for anyone. The secret to this "Gameplay" is the technical nature of the track. Once a little more famililiar with the car, track and one's own limits, I gaurantee you will be looking to find an extra 5mph here another 5m braking point etc. The beauty of an organised trackday is the ability to learn and progress by osmosis. There will by the nature of driving be someone better than you, but it is unlikly that they are better than everyone else on ALL the corners. Watch, follow, learn and implement. You will find yourself going back time and time again. Not because the track has huge speed corners or 5* amenities, but because, you know there is another few tenths here, 5mph there and you WILL find it...eventually. School contrary to popular myth is not hard to do, but exceptionally easy to get wrong. Experiment with turn-in point, late on apex1 but only cut to one third width of the track from the in-field, before feathering in full throttle 4th gear for entry and exit and allowing the car to push wide on the exit/as the track rises again. Gently settle car with brake to allow a neat late apex entry to Abbotts in third. Let the car push left as the track rises to the radar complex pull back full right as you near the blind crest for radar, aim for the white line/marshall after the corner on the extreme left and hold the throttle until the slight bump/change in road surface, short sharp stomp to the brakes to set you up for a late tight right hand entry to the complexs' exit. Experiment with taking the curb or not, be aware that the back end will break away try to use the momentum to maintain direction rather than "tank slapping". Long straight to the hairpin, max speed (me, anyway is 95 mph) brake just after the sign to hairpin, keep to the extreme left, right into the haipin, the turn in point to avoid too much scrubb off and wild understeer is impossibly late, almost trying to straight line the corner (you will see what I mean). Use a feathered to full throttle to minimise understeer and exit into the short staight to Douglas mountview keeping far right and maintaining entry speed 65 ish lift into the corner to shift weight and aim for the end of the scond right hand apex to allow for a full throttle exit to the last left onto the start finish staight , me again max speed 110-115mph. Ensure brakes are up to it, pads have enough meat left as you will not realise how hard you will work them and that you should check when you last had a brake fluid change, if its old, brake fade WILL set in, QUICKLY. Finding this out as you enter the hairpin corner is not advisable. Beleive me I found out I had a brake fluid leak! this way and I have never pumped the brakes/cadence braked as quickly ever, nor do I think I ever will again. The vision of appoaching the hairpin at 90ish mph and realising that you are not slowing down is very unnerving especially seeing as the straight-on approach to the hairpin will unite you and your car with a very unfriendly brick wall!

Should I let the secret out? This is a fantastic circuit for the likes of 7s and Elises - nice and twisty with up and downy bits too. The scenery's great and the sun always shines!

Circuits don't get much better than this for elise or seven drivers, easy to learn and a great circuit for beginners. However it is actually a highly technical circuit that means you can return time after time and find extra speed. Lots of run off and beautiful views on a clear day. School corner : one of the last great fast sweepers, it is possible to carry immense speed through this the first corner after the straight, I just haven't quite got the confidence to do it yet. That might have something to do with the fact that it looks like you are going to drive right over a cliff and into the sea. Theories abound about whether you take it wide treat it as a double apex, or go in tight and slightly slower but be able to get on the ower sooner, I prefer the latter, it does depend a lot on the car that one. Radar : fantastic corner that rewards those that like to feel the car sliding. Aim for the marshall on the left as you go in, smoothly take off the lock as you go up the hill, small dab on the brakes to load up the front suspension as you start the turn to the right, this will aid turn in and also unbalance the rear if you want - to slide the car slightly before applying full power for the straight before the hairpin. Thats the theory anyway Hairpin : if you can guarantee one thing about Angelesey its that everyone will complain about understeer at the hairpin. Stay to the left of the track and turn in deep into the hairpin where you see a surface change (it looks like a bit of old road driving staight on into the distance), slow in fast out is the only way, take a late apex - most people go in too early and then struggle with understeer and cannot put the power down until they are well up the straight into Mountfield. By taking the late apex you can get the power down early and let the car drift over to the left where there is alot of (unused) curb. Mountfield : after the hair pin - take the car over to the right of the track, you don't need to brake for the first left. Balance the car around the following right, taking as much curb as the car or you will dare to straight line the exit for the straight. I love it!!

This track is a bit of a go-kart circuit on steroids, just over a mile long and perched on the edge of the Irish Sea. A real variety of corners and gradients with plenty of spectacular views to distract the inattentive, make it a challenging circuit to drive. Corner one is "School Corner" leading into "Abbots". Go in too fast and you'll find the back end stepping out and the car heading towards the Marshalls post in the in-field ! The "Radar Complex" is a deceptive uphill blind left, followed by a tight right. The "Hairpin" is a what it says on the tin. "Douglas / Mountview" is an interesting downhill Left, Right, Left leading on to the main straight. The downside to all of this, is that when it rains, it comes in horizontal and the braking zone for the School Corner becomes like a ford.
